Equipment

Instructions

  • First, score the chicken breast about half an inch deep (1cm). We opted for a criss-cross pattern.
  • Season each breast with some salt and pepper.
  • Add the flour to a large dish and coat each breast in flour. Give the breast a little shake to remove any excess flour.
  • Melt half of the butter in a large skillet, once melted add the chicken and cook for 3-4 minutes per side on medium-high heat.
  • Move the cooked chicken to the side of the pan and add the rest of the butter along with the garlic.
  • Reduce heat to medium and fry the garlic for a minute or two until fragrant, then add the honey, soy sauce, vinegar, and cayenne pepper.
  • Gently stir through until the ingredients are combined.
  • Remove from the heat before the sauce thickens too much (around 1-2 minutes is enough time on the heat).
  • Garnish with some fresh chopped chives and serve with fresh greens and plenty of steamed rice to mop up the delicious sauce.

NOTE: Use a meat thermometer to test the internal temperature of the chicken has reached 74°C / 165°F

Cooking Notes:

1. For a Gluten free option – Use cornflour / cornstarch instead.

2. Soy Sauce – Light or all-purpose soy sauce is suitable for this recipe.

3. Chicken breasts used were around 500g grams and about 1.5 inches thick when uncooked. If using larger chicken breast meat, adjust cooking time accordingly.

4. Use a Meat thermometer to ensure your chicken is cooked through. Once it reaches an internal temperature of 165 °F (74 °C), it is done.

Honey Garlic Butter Sauce

When it comes to quick and easy sauce that are loaded with flavor, honey garlic butter sauce has to be on the top of our list. While there’s a few ingredients (soy sauce) that do stray from traditional Mediterranean cuisine, it’s a ingredient that is welcomed to any kitchen pantry.

How to Make Honey Garlic Butter Sauce

Honey garlic and butter sauce is very easy to make and takes about 3 minutes. Simply melt some butter in a pan, saute the garlic voer medium heat until fragrant, then add the honey and soy sauce. To give it a little extra kick, we’ve also added some vinegar and cayenne pepper but these are not essential. Once everything has been heated and given a stir, remove from the heat and the sauce will thicken while standing.

The result is rich, flavorful sauce that’s ideal for chicken breast recipes. It’s also great on salmon, prawns or shrimp, or on pork chops or ribs.

Serving suggestions

  • Steamed white rice
  • Brown rice
  • Cauliflower rice
  • Cous cous

We suggest serving the chicken with some steamed rice as pictured. The rice does a great job of soaking up all that delicious sweet sauce and also adds a carb boost! For a balanced meal, we suggest adding some steamed carrots and green beans or peas.
