Ingredients
- 1 cup white rice (basmati, jasmine, or long-grain rice
- 1.5 cups water
- A pinch of salt (to taste)
Equipment
- Deep flat microwave-safe dish
- Spoon or rice spatula
- Microwave
- Large sieve (for washing the rice)
Instructions
- Rinse rice in a sieve.
- Transfer rice to a microwave-safe dish, it should have deep sides and a flat bottom to prevent bubbling over.
- Add enough water to cover rice by 1cm (0.5 inch) or about a thumb deep.
- Add a pinch of salt and mix the rice.
- Microwave on high setting (100%) for 5 minutes. Remove from microwave and stir
- Microwave again on high for another 5 minutes, then remove from microwave and stir again.
- Optional: Check rice and if you prefer softer (more fluffy) rice, return to microwave for one more round, again for 2-3 minutes. Remove from microwave and stir.
- Cover the rice bowl with a kitchen towel and set aside for 5 minutes.
- Fluff rice and serve!
