Gorgonzola Pizza With Pear and Red Onion (Easy Party-Night Recipe)

Gorgonzola pizza with pear and red onion is the perfect Friday night recipe when you’re busy entertaining (of course, it’s also the right choice for a date with the TV). It’s easy to make and loaded with delicious Mediterranean flavors from the Italian Gorgonzola to the delicious pieces of pear that are a flavor combination not to be missed!

Equipment

  • Large cutting board and kitchen knife
  • Pizza wheel cutter (optional)
  • Small basting brush
  • Mesh baking tray and parchment paper (baking paper)

Ingredients
  

  • 1 sheet of pizza dough or make your own pizza dough
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese grated
  • 3 oz 100g Gorgonzola cheese (we used the ‘dolce’ variety)
  • ¼ red onion thinly sliced
  • 1 ripe pear thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and cracked black pepper to taste
  • 1 handful rocket

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 475°F/250°C.
    Oven temperature dial.
  • Roll out the pizza dough onto a mesh baking tray. (See information below if making your own dough from scratch).

  • Baste pizza base with some olive oil then bake base for 3 minutes, or until just golden. Remove the base from oven.
    2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Brush the base with some more olive oil, then sprinkle with the mozzarella cheese, then add the red onion, pear slices, and gorgonzola.
    1 cup mozzarella cheese, 3 oz 100g Gorgonzola cheese (we used the ‘dolce’ variety), ¼ red onion, 1 ripe pear, Salt and cracked black pepper
  • Return to oven and bake for 8 minutes or until crust is browned and cheeses are melted.
  • Sprinkle the rocket evenly over the top and serve.

Notes

Cooking Notes

  • Substitute other types of blue cheese for gorgonzola.
  • Substitute Mozzarella for your favorite type of cheese (gouda, cheddar, and edam all work well!).
  • Add some crushed walnuts after baking for some extra crunch and texture. 
  • Check your pizza base packet for timing suggestions, since some will be thicker and take longer (or thinner and less).
